Hello, Theo here. After spending more than ten years in Khao Lak, here is my list of the top beaches in the region.

Guide to the best beaches in Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a small, quiet, village situated along the Andaman Sea coastline, around 80km
north of Phuket. It is famous for not only its proximity to the world-renowned Similan and Surin
National Parks, but also its numerous peaceful beaches and surrounding villages.
Nestled between the sea and mountains, this corner of paradise will satisfy both active
adventure seekers and lovers of relaxing on the seaside. For the physically ambitious, there are hikes available
amongst the waterfalls and lush vegetation. Equally, fans of “relaxation” will find what they are
looking for as Khao Lak’s number one asset, other than the Similan and Surin Islands, is its
abundance of calm beaches, each more beautiful and serene than the other.
This guide aims to enlighten and help you choose where to lay out your towel for a well-
deserved moment of leisure.

Ao Thong Beach (White Sand Beach)

This beach is located about 15 minutes by car from the center of Khao Lak, it is lined with palm
trees and its sand is the whitest in the region, the ideal combination for an idyllic setting.
This beach contrasts with the other beaches in the region which tend to have golden sand. It is
accessible by car, and you will find restaurants, bars and even massage parlors directly facing
the sea.
You may choose to sip a cocktail in a sun lounger under a parasol, or eat at a bamboo table with
your feet in the sand.
It’s the ideal place to enjoy a Thai dish on the beach and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the
waves.
There are also beautiful short walks starting from this beach.

Coconut Beach

Location: Coconut Beach on Google Map
Coconut beach is located directly south of Ao Thong beach (White sand beach). It is the
southern continuation of Ao Thong beach, and you will find a similar landscape of beautiful
white sand and an expanding line of palm trees.
Here you have your choice of small restaurants located directly on the beach.

You can easily reach Ao Thong beach on foot from Coconut beach.

Khuek Khak Beach

Location: Khuek Khak Beach on Google Map
On this beach, it is not uncommon to find yourself almost completely alone…
Beautifully wide and filled with fine golden sand, it is a very pleasant oasis not far from the
amenities of Khao Lak. In fact, this beach is right next to Bang Niang beach, its livelier
neighbour, with its many bars and restaurants. Its location makes it an ideal place to stay a few
nights in one of the beachside resorts.
You will find a multitude of charming little restaurants on the small parallel road behind the
beach.

Poseidon Beach

Location: Poseidon Beach on Google Map
This beach is located south of Khao Lak on the other side of the mountain, about 10-15 minutes
from the center of Khao Lak by taxi.
It is a very charming little beach, less than a kilometer long, which contrasts with the majority of
beaches in the region which are quite expansive.
It’s a little corner of paradise filled with fine sand lined with trees, complemented by round
granite rocks dotting the landscape, a delightful escape!
There are also many small restaurants located right on the sand, as well as outdoor massage
parlors with sea views, etc.

Pak Weep Beach

Considered the best beach in Khao Lak for families, especially children, Pak Weep beach is a
good compromise between tranquility and entertainment.
This beach is quieter and less touristy than Bang Niang or Nangthong, and you will find facilities
dedicated to children such as slides, tree swings, inflatable toys, beach balls etc.
Lined with trees, this beach will allow you to relax by the water or enjoy your delicious meal
while your children have fun.
Pak weep will also delight adults with its luxury resorts offering bars, restaurants and massage
parlors on the beach

Bangsak Beach

Location: Bangsak Beach on Google Map
Bangsak Beach is the perfect place if you are looking for peace and quiet.
This stretch of sand lined with trees makes it a very pleasant place for walks along the beach.
The trees provide shade and serenity, where you can hang your hammock and spend a few
quiet hours reading a book.
On the weekend, locals frequent this beach to picnic in the shade of the trees.
Sellers offer snacks and cold drinks, and there are a few restaurants and street stalls serving
Thai dishes.
You will not find sun loungers on this beach, so it is recommended to bring your own
mattress/beach mat.

Small Sandy Beach

Location: Small Sandy Beach on Google Map
Small sandy beach is the smallest beach in Khao Lak.

This mini paradise is worth a visit as it is only accessible after having made a short trek in the
jungle of the Khao Lak Lamru National Park. If you want to combine a short hike with a moment
of relaxation on a heavenly beach, this is the ideal place.
The main entrance (https://maps.app.goo.gl/F7n6mVTWgWqbnAjDA) is at the small police
station at the entrance to Khao Lak when arriving from the south. It is about a half hour walk in
the jungle before reaching the beach.
Remember to bring water because there are no restaurants or bars on this beach, however
there are public toilets available.
There is, however, an entrance fee to access the national park, but the ticket will also give you
access to the Chong Fa waterfall (https://www.khaolakexplorer.com/khao-lak-waterfalls/) which
can easily be combined in the same day .

Pakarang Beach (Memories Beach)

Pakarang beach is the ideal beach to contemplate the sunset with a cocktail and music. With its
surfing atmosphere and its beach bars, this beach is the liveliest in Khao Lak after Bang Niang
beach.

There are often events like surfing competitions during the season.
For bars/restaurants with a surfing atmosphere, Memories bar is where it's at, complete with
delicious Thai cuisine and wooden/bamboo furniture located directly on the sand to have a very
pleasant time.
If you prefer a slightly more upscale beach club, the Karkinos beach club located in the Apsara
resort will seduce you with its rhythmic playlist, beautiful bamboo architecture, and Italian
cuisine.
If you want to learn surfing, you will find a multitude of surf schools and board rentals available
all around Memories bar and Apsara resort (Salt Surf, Memories bar, Better Surf etc).
The surfing season is between late April and November. Occasionally, there are sometimes
sufficient waves out of season for beginners. We advise you to contact a surf school to find out if
the conditions are suitable.

Bang Niang Beach

Bang Niang beach is located in the center of Khao Lak, lined with the most beautiful resorts and
beach clubs in Khao Lak.
You may reach Bang Niang beach by passing between Ramada and La Vela, both of whom
offer upscale restaurants and bars. It is the ideal place to have dinner and a drink while listening
to live music by local artists or to enjoy the beach club lounge atmosphere hosted by a DJ on
certain evenings.
You can also access the north side of this beach by turning right at the end of “Soi Bang Niang”
street and walking alongside the resorts for a few hundred meters. You will have access to the
beach with a few restaurants with bamboo tables on the sand.

Nang Thong Beach

Nang Thong Beach is located in the center of Khao Lak, it is one of the first beaches in the
region to be developed.
This beach, like Poseidon Beach, is dotted with round granite rocks. The view of Khao Lak
lighthouse will enhance your sunset photos.
You will find a multitude of restaurants and resorts by the sea. This is the ideal beach if you like
proximity to the lively center of Khao Lak town. A few dozen meters behind the beach you will
find a night market with various food stalls and bars.

The Secret Beach

Only accessible by boat, about 45 minutes from Khao Lak Tap Lamu pier

Khao Lak has some of the most quiet beach in Thailand, as the area of Khao Lak is quite extended and has more than 50km of coastline. Which makes it unique compared to the crowded beach of the Samui, Koh Tao, Phuket, Krabi and other popular destinations.
